What Is a Teflon Lined Butterfly Valve?
A Teflon lined butterfly valve is a quarter-turn rotary valve where internal wetted surfaces (body, disc face, and seat) are fully lined with PTFE, FEP, or related fluoropolymers. This lining acts as a chemically inert barrier, preventing corrosion and contamination when handling aggressive acids, alkalis, and solvents.

How Does It Work?
It operates on a simple quarter-turn principle. A circular disc mounted on a central stem rotates 90 degrees. In the closed position, the disc presses against the PTFE seat for a bubble-tight shut-off. In the open position, it aligns with the flow, offering minimal resistance. The fluoropolymer lining ensures the process fluid never touches the metal body, guaranteeing zero leaching and excellent corrosion resistance.
Types of Teflon Lined Butterfly Valves
1. Wafer Type
The most common and cost-effective configuration. It fits between two pipe flanges using through-bolts. Ideal for non-critical dead-end services and applications where the pipeline can be depressurized for maintenance. Available from DN50 (2″) to DN600 (24″).
2. Lug Type
Features threaded lugs protruding from the valve body, allowing each flange to be bolted independently. This enables downstream pipework to be disconnected without draining the upstream side, making it ideal for maintenance-sensitive installations.
