Material Selection Guide

For water and HVAC applications, CI body with EPDM seat is standard. For chemical service, specify CF8M (SS316) body with PTFE or Viton seat. For high-temperature service above 120°C, use metal-seated or PTFE-seated configurations. All springs are SS316 as standard for corrosion resistance.

Dimension Notes

ØA = Face-to-face dimension (overall length). ØB = Minimum bore diameter. C = Wafer thickness/center dimension. PN10 and PN16 share identical face-to-face dimensions for sizes DN40–DN200. For DN250 and above, slight variations exist. Class 150 (PN25) dimensions are generally longer than PN10/PN16 for the same size.

Cracking Pressure Data

Cracking pressure is the minimum differential pressure required to open the check valve disc. Understanding cracking pressure is critical for pump selection and system design, especially in low-flow or gravity-fed applications.

Cracking Pressure Engineering Note

Forward cracking pressure increases with valve size due to larger disc area and spring force requirements. Reverse cracking pressure (backflow sealing) remains consistently low (0.5–1.5 mbar) across all sizes, ensuring excellent backflow prevention. For gravity-fed systems or low-head applications, consider the forward cracking pressure when selecting valve size.

Technical Notes & Installation

Installation Orientation

Single plate wafer check valves can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines. For vertical installation, ensure flow direction is upward. The flow direction arrow cast on the valve body must align with pipeline flow direction.

Flange Compatibility

Wafer design fits between ANSI B16.5, DIN PN10/PN16/PN25, BS 10TD/10TE, and IS 1538 flanges. Use full set of stud bolts and nuts. Do not use partial bolt sets as this can cause uneven loading and leakage.

Maintenance Requirements

Single plate check valves are maintenance-free under normal operating conditions. The spring-loaded design ensures rapid closure to prevent water hammer. No external lubrication or adjustment required.

Testing & Certification

All valves are hydrostatically tested per API 598 standards. Shell test at 1.5x rated pressure, seat test at 1.1x rated pressure. Material Test Certificates (MTC) provided with every shipment.

Applications & Industries

Water & Wastewater

Municipal water supply, distribution networks, pump discharge protection, ETP/STP plants. CI body with EPDM seat is standard for clean water service.

HVAC Systems

Chilled water and condenser water circuits, cooling tower lines, boiler feed systems. Prevents reverse flow and water hammer in large-diameter headers.

Chemical Processing

Acid, alkali, and solvent transfer lines. SS316 (CF8M) body with PTFE or Viton seat for aggressive chemical service. Common in GIDC estates.

Power & Energy

Cooling water circulation, condensate return, auxiliary systems. Large bore valves (DN300–DN600) for main cooling water isolation.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the face-to-face dimension for a DN100 PN16 single plate check valve?
For a DN100 (4 inch) single plate wafer check valve rated PN16, the face-to-face dimension (ØA) is 164 mm. For PN10 it is 164 mm, and for Class 150 (PN25) it is 175 mm. All dimensions conform to API 594 and ISO 5752 standards.
2. What is the cracking pressure for a DN200 wafer check valve?
For a DN200 single plate wafer check valve, the cracking pressure in the forward flow direction is 15.3 mbar, and in the reverse direction it is 0.92 mbar. Cracking pressure decreases as valve size increases due to the larger disc area.
3. What materials are available for single plate check valves?
Body materials include CI, MS, SGI, WCB, CF8 (SS304), and CF8M (SS316). Disc materials include MS, WCB, CF8, and CF8M. Seat options are Nitrile, EPDM, Silicon, Viton, and PTFE. Springs are SS316 as standard.
4. What is the difference between PN10 and PN16 face-to-face dimensions?
For most sizes, PN10 and PN16 single plate check valves share the same face-to-face dimensions as they follow the same ISO 5752 Series 19 standard. The difference lies in the pressure rating and wall thickness, not the overall length. Both are interchangeable in most pipeline installations.
