1. What is the difference between wafer type and lug type butterfly valve?
A wafer type butterfly valve is clamped between two pipeline flanges — both upstream and downstream flanges must remain in place when the valve is in service. It is the most compact and economical butterfly valve end connection. A lug type butterfly valve has threaded lugs bolted independently to each pipeline flange — the downstream piping can be removed while the valve stays in place. Specify wafer for standard in-line service where both flanges will always be present.
